Unitech Composites, part of the Composites Group of AGC Aerospace & Defense, designs and manufactures composite structures for the commercial and military aerospace markets.
The introduction of in-house NDI enhances the inspection services Unitech can offer to meet customer demand arising from the increased use of composites in aircraft production.
The company has invested in a MISTRAS ultrasonic NDI system.
“This system will allow us to perform ultrasonic inspection of composite parts in-house, reducing lead times and allowing Unitech to better serve our customers,” explains Rick Hundley, President of Unitech Composites and Structures, Hayden, Idaho, USA.
“Many structural composite parts require 100% instrumental NDI,” he adds.
“The capability of this modified immersion scanning system allows us to continue to focus and improve our efforts on meeting future demand as rate production on programmes like the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350 increase.”
