Unitech Composites qualifies as a Airbus A350 supplier

The A350 made its first flights in June this year.

Unitech is now qualified for Airbus manufacturing and process specifications including the manufacture of monolithic parts with thermoset prepreg materials and the machining of fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) components, among others.

The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft to be over 50 wt% composite; its airframe also includes titanium and advanced aluminium alloys. Initially, Unitech will produce assemblies to support both the wing structures and fuselage programmes. (See: Airbus A350 XWB makes its maiden flight.)

In addition to the new manufacturing partnership, Unitech will continue to play a key role in supplying composite components and assemblies to other Airbus manufacturing partners.

Unitech Composites, headquartered in Hayden, Idaho, USA, designs and manufactures composite structures in commercial and military aerospace markets. Unitech operates within the AGC Composites & Aerostructures Group, part of the AGC Aerospace & Defense portfolio, is jointly owned by The Edgewater Funds and Acorn Growth Companies.

AGC Composites & Aerostructures also includes Integrated Composites and the recently-acquired Tods Composite Solutions (See: AGC Aerospace & Defense strengthens composites capabilities with acquisition of Tods.)
