SP launches M-Foam core material

M-Foam is the latest addition to SP's Corecell range.
M-Foam is the latest addition to SP's Corecell range.

Corecell M-Foam is designed for all marine applications, whether slamming area or superstructure, hull or deck, using hand lamination, infusion or prepreg processes.

SP, the marine composites business of Gurit, based on the Isle of Wight, UK, claims that Corecell M-Foam is the only core material to offer a complete cost-effective package comprising high shear strength, low weight and high elongation, low resin uptake for infusion processes, and high temperature stability for prepreg processes.

“Corecell™ M-Foam is the product that our customers have been asking for," says Graham Harvey, Business Manager Marine, SP. "It is the first foam to deliver the full package and will be invaluable for boat yards, boat builders, designers and engineers alike. Whether the concern is the lightest structure, highest toughness, compatibility with prepreg or better print-through resistance, SP believes that M-Foam’s unique combination of benefits is what the marine market has been missing.”

Corecell M-Foam is available in a wide range of thicknesses, several resin infusion formats and in four grades.

M-Foam is reported to be tough and easy to machine, and is compatible with polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resin systems.
