Report on composites industry in Europe

Composites Germany has published its 15th report covering the current state of the composite industry.

According to the organization, it contains the results of a survey of all the member companies its three main umbrella companies: AVK, Leichtbau Baden-Württemberg and the VDMA Working Group on Hybrid Lightweight Construction Technologies.

Due to the current impact of the coronavirus pandemic on numerous business segments and areas of application, ratings reached the lowest figures since the surveys were started in January 2013, the organization said. Moreover, not only did companies give rather unfavourable assessments of the general business situation; they also continued to be pessimistic about their own situations.

However, while responders predicted a deterioration in the automotive and aviation markets, other sectors, such as sports and leisure and infrastructure/construction, were expected to develop far more positively.

As well as this, in previous surveys, respondents said that the composites segment would receive its growth stimuli from carbon fiber reinforced plastic, Composites Germany said. In this survey, glass fiber reinforced plastic was mentioned as the most important material.

The next composites market survey will be published in February 2021.
