Towpregs are continuous carbon or glass fibers threaded or impregnated with high performance thermoplastics and are suitable for out-of-autoclave (OOA) processing.
Depending on the final application, the polymer content in weight covers a range from 30% to 50% and according to requirements, fibers can be fully impregnated in various widths.
Energy consumption
Compared to slitted tapes, towpregs are 100% continuous, avoiding any splice, Porcher says. The towpregs also offer high speed processing, lower energy consumption, a very low curvature angle and very constant weight and width along the towpreg. There are no dry/lift fibers on the towpreg surface and less downtime (no splice management).
Towpreg technology is particularly suitable for the aerospace, aeronautic and oil/gas industries.
