Polyamide recycling

Asahi Kasei and Microwave Chemical launch joint demonstration project for chemical recycling of polyamide 66 using microwave-based technology.

Asahi Kasei has laid out plans to commercialize a way to chemically recycling polyamide 66 using microwave technology.

According to the company, the process utilizes microwaves supplied by Microwave Chemical to depolymerize the PA66 and directly obtain hexamethylenediamine (HMD) and adipic acid (ADA), which it says can be done using less energy. The monomers obtained can then be used to manufacture new PA66, Asahi Kasei said.
