McConaghy Boats opens NZ office with superyacht focus

Video: Building the Adastra superyacht at McConaghy Boats. McConaghy has previously been involved in high profile superyacht projects such as the award-winning 42.5 m trimaran Adastra, built at McConaghy's yard in China, and Mike Slade’s 30 m racing yacht Leopard 3.

The company now wants to build on this experience and actively market itself as a builder of high quality performance-focused carbon fibre composite superyachts, to complement its ongoing work in the sub-30 m sector.

Part of this new strategy includes the setting up of a New Zealand office. This will be run by experienced superyacht personnel Rodney Martin and Paul Vivian, both formerly of Fitzroy Yachts, who will be joined by 6-8 design and engineering staff.

The New Zealand team’s focus will be on marketing the company within the superyacht sector and working on design programmes for the McConaghy Group.

  • In February, McConaghy Boats owners Mark Evans and Jono Morris signed an agreement with Graham Porter of Tiger Group Investments, Hong Kong, which will provide capital for investment in new machinery and equipment at McConaghy’s facilities in China and Sydney, Australia.
