Built for a Hong Kong client and designed by John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs Ltd, Adastra is a luxury yacht with very low fuel consumption.
The Adastra was built at the Chinese yard of Australian company McConaghy Boats, a builder of composite luxury yachts. The superstructure was constructed in carbon fibre composite with Nomex honeycomb core and the hull is a glass/Kevlar foam sandwich.
The interior was designed by Jepsen Design in Hong Kong and custom built by McConaghy, including the lightweight interior panels, carbon fibre hatches, carbon portlights and carbon ladders, and the three custom carbon fibre anchor winches and anchor arms which neatly fold away to be hidden inside Adastra's sleek lines.
The 42.5 m vessel has a beam of 16 m and can accommodate 9 guests and 5-6 crew. It has a maximum speed of 22.5 knots, a range of 4000 milles (at 17 knots) and fuel of 120 litres per hour (at 17 knots).
Sea trials
Adastra is currently performing a series of sea trails in China and Hong Kong. "Adastra has been a fantastic project to be involved in, it is a testament to McConaghy and everyone who was involved," says McConaghy Boats Managing Director Mark Evans, who is based in China. "She is a magnificent vessel and highlights the company's craftsmanship."
