This is part of the LIGHTCAR project, funded by the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI), which aims to create long fiber composites with improved eco-friendly properties that will reduce the weight of electric vehicle batteries by 50%-70%. The materials would also have improved impact resistance and rigidity and be suitable for recycling and processing using efficient manufacturing methods with low waste generation.

Plastics research center AIMPLAS says that it plans to develop new materials and processes to help reduce vehicle weight.
