GRP joint venture

Dura Composites has formed a joint venture with Mekina Industries, a UK manufacturer of glass fiber reinforced (GRP) permanent formwork products for infrastructure projects.

As part of the agreement, Dura owns 50% of Mekina Industries, but both companies will operate independently.

According to Dura, Mekina was formed in 2023 by two composites experts who have over 50 years’ experience in the technical design and manufacture of GRP products and have worked on over 4,000 projects worldwide.

The company’s Mek-Dek formwork panels are used as sacrificial ‘leave-in-place’ concrete molds and are strong and lightweight, Dura said.

“We want to solve […] more challenging infrastructure problems, and that includes expanding our capabilities with a network of specialist partners such as Mekina,” said Dura MD Stuart Burns. “Mekina Industries’ expertise in GRP permanent formwork complements our portfolio of solutions for the transport and highways industry.”
