Production was 2.2 million tonnes in 2022, the trade organization reported at a recent seminar on biopolymers and sustainable composites led by plastics research center Aimplas.
The applications expected to show the most growth are related to agriculture, which now accounts for 4% of total production, but is expected to increase to 5%.
During the seminar, Aimplas researcher Johana Andrade discussed the importance of standardizations and certifications when promoting bioplastics to ensure that they are used appropriately and that their end of life is managed properly.
