Amber Composites, Langley Mill, UK, says that the flax fabric provides the high performance and easy processing normally associated with glass fibre but with lower weight and environmental impact. In addition, improved damping characteristics make it ideal for certain applications.

The flax fibre prepreg is available in Amber’s Multipreg 8020 epoxy resin system, a low-to-medium cure prepreg which can be used with or without an autoclave. It is suitable for semi-structural and decorative applications in the automotive, marine, sports and consumer goods sectors. The initial fabric options are a 400 g/m2 2x2 twill, and a 500 g/m2 plain weave.

“We have a lot of customers ask for prepreg using our Biotex flax fabric and we worked closely with Amber Composites to ensure this solution was available,” reports Brendon Weager, Managing Director of Composites Evolution, Chesterfield, UK..
