PRF Composite Materials has developed a new prepreg for use with unidirectional (UD) and woven carbon fabrics.

The RP542-4 system has reportedly been designed as an intermediately toughened system following the launch of the company’s RP542-1 and RP549 systems.

‘The mechanical testing carried out shows the system to have excellent tensile, compressive, flexural and interlaminar properties and a relatively high Tg of 138°C after curing at 120°C,’ said head of technology, Heather Hughes. ‘The onset Tg can be improved by 20°C to 120°C after post curing at 140°C for 2 hours. Adding to its usability, the system also has an out life of 60 days at 20°C.’

The system is available on 300 gsm and 600 gsm unidirectional carbon and PRF’s range of fabrics in a variety of fiber types, the company says.
