Huntsman to unveil composite portfolio for EV applications at JEC World 2024

Huntsman will present a new polyurethane and epoxy-based composites portfolio at JEC World 2024 in Paris 5–7 March 2024 that can support the automotive industry’s transition towards electrified vehicles.

The portfolio includes novel composite solutions that can help automotive manufacturers and their tier suppliers optimize production processes, reduce environmental impact, and maximize the performance and lifetime of vehicle components.

Innovations will include RIMLINE RSM system - a brand new glass fiber-reinforced, polyurethane composite technology developed for rear seat pan applications. Huntsman’s RIMLINE RSM system can support compact, lightweight, simplified design configuration requirements. The technology is applied via reaction spray molding, making it ideal for creating complex geometrical shapes. It also cures quickly after spraying and can be demolded fast for an efficient production cycle.

Huntsman’s JEC exhibition booth will also feature customizable, quick cure, high strength polyurethane resins that can be used to house batteries in electric vehicles. These VITROX and RIMLINE systems can create composite components for underbody and upper cover battery protection applications up to 30% quicker than some existing technologies. Enabling high performing composites alongside extra design and production flexibility capabilities, the range includes products that can offer lower overall part weight and increased strength as well as improved structural performance – and were developed to be suitable for integration in electric vehicles.

The latest ARALDITE epoxy innovations and composite solutions developed for emerging battery electric and fuel cell electric mobility will also be on show at JEC World. A highlight will be the first UN ECE R134 certified 700 bar and 350-liter Type IV hydrogen tank manufactured by Voith Composites. The high-pressure vessel, produced via an optimized towpreg winding process, can be seen in Hall 6/Q24 or in the JEC Innovation planet. Huntsman has developed an efficient resin system to help enhance towpreg materials' storage capabilities at room temperature; ensure precise rheology, tackiness, and cohesion of carbon fiber filaments; and enable swift impregnation and accurate placement during high-speed winding while maintaining thermo-mechanical performance.

Huntsman will also present its latest range of epoxy resin solutions developed for composite pressure vessels at the JEC World 2024 Composite Exchange.

At JEC World 2024, Huntsman will be in Hall 6, Booth K32.
