Composites Evolution and natural fiber reinforcement specialist Bcomp have launched a new range of flax epoxy prepreg materials that can be additionally reinforced with a flax fiber grid. The prepreg is compatible with Bcomp’s powerRibs reinforcement grid which enables the same stiffness and weight as thin-walled monolithic carbon fiber parts, the companies say. Using natural fiber can also decrease the CO2 footprint by 85% and improve safety due to blunt braking behaviour without dangerous debris or sharp edges, according to Composites Evolution. ‘Sustainability is an increasingly important factor for many of our customers – particularly those involved in motorsports and high-performance automotive applications,’ said Composites Evolution sales and marketing director, Ben Hargreaves. ‘As you’d expect in these sectors though, sustainability can’t come at the expense of performance – the two must go hand-in-hand.’
