Fiber reinforced thermoplastic approved for aerospace

Polymer specialist Victrex announced today says that one of its unidirectional tape (UDT) prepregs has been approved by the US National Center for Advanced Materials Performance (NCAMP) for use in aerospace.

Victrex AE 250-AS4 thermoplastic resin system is reinforced with Hexcels’s carbon fiber. When used in aerospace parts, it could reduce energy use, decrease aircraft weight, and improve durability, the company said.

The prepreg also meets fire, smoke, toxicity (FST) standards and has improved chemical resistance.
