Composites for the wind industry

Textiles specialist Saertex has developed a new range of glass and carbon fiber materials for wind turbine rotor blades.

The reinforcement materials are used in the production of spar caps and make it possible to achieverotor blade lengths of more than 100 m, the company said.

Saertex has also developed SAERfoam80, a core material for sandwich structures in boat building applications which is suitable for use with both vacuum infusion and resin transfer molding (RTM), and new products in its LEO series for fire protection in the shipbuilding and rail vehicle industries.
