Balsa materials from Gurit

Composites specialist Gurit has launched Ampreg 30, a new low toxicity epoxy laminating system and Balsaflex Lite, a balsa core material.

Balsaflex Lite has a coating system that is capable of reducing the resin uptake in infusion processes by up to 50% for rigid panels and by up to 40% for flexible balsa wood sheets. It is reportedly compatible with epoxy and polyester resin infusion processes used by the industry.

Gurit Balsaflex Lite is supplied in standard sheet size of 610 x 1220 mm (2x4ft), thickness from 6 mm up to 50 mm and in the existing Balsaflex density range.

Ampreg 30 can be used in the manufacture of large composite structures in the marine, wind and construction industries. It has been made with a focus on the health and safety of hand lay-up and vacuum bagging production techniques.

Gurit Ampreg 30 features a resin matrix resulting in improved mechanical and thermal properties of laminates produced at ambient temperature cures and moderate temperature post-curing processes. The laminating system is available with a range of hardener speeds from fast to slow.

It is also available in a LRT (Light Reflective Technology) version, an optional addition to the resin matrix that enables the inspection of contamination by means of UV light after each work period to reduce workers’ exposure to chemicals and without changing the mixing and handling properties of the laminating system or cured resin performance.
