Stork Fokker agrees purchase of Virtek laser projection systems

Virtek specialises in laser templating and imaging solutions. Its LaserEdge system is used in the lay-up of composite plies in the aerospace industry.

Virtek was purchased by Gerber Technology, a supplier of automotated cutting systems and software for composites and other materials, in October 2008.

“Virtek and Stork Fokker have long had an excellent relationship, but since the purchase by Gerber Technology, we see an even stronger business partner offering the innovative spirit that is such an important part of our competitive edge as we go forward meeting the exacting requirements laid out by our own customers,” says Herman Buitenhuis of Stork Fokker.

Stork Fokker, a part of Stork Aerospace, develops and produces aircraft structures in composites and other materials.

Virtek has also announced an agreement with Patria Aerostructures Oy of Finland under which Patria will double the size of its current Virtek laser templating facility. This involves the supply of new LaserEdge systems to the Patria composite facility in Halli, Finland.

Patria is a defence and aerospace group owned by the State of Finland and the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company EADS NV.
