SGL reports positive Q1 2023

SGL Carbon says that it had group sales of €283.7 million in Q1 2023, an increase of 4.7% compared to Q1 2022 figures of €270.9 million.

According to the company, this increase was a due to Increased demand for graphite components for the semiconductor industry and positive business development in the company’s Process Technology and Composite Solutions businesses.

SGL’s Graphite Solutions business had an increase in sales of €21.3 million or 17.8%, while Process Technology increased by €6.6 million and Composite Solutions by €4.0 million.

However, the company’s Carbon Fiber business unit recorded a decline in sales of €24.0 million in Q1 2023 compared to Q1 2022.

“The decline is mainly due to the scheduled expiry of the attractive supply contract for the BMW i3 in the middle of last year,” a press release said. “Freed-up production capacities were compensated by orders from the wind industry in the 2nd half of 2022. But the necessary construction of wind turbines in Europe is currently stalling.”
