SAMPE conference report

The Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE) says that its first annual event in May brought together 252 exhibiting companies and 3,316 attendees, including engineers, scientists, and professionals from the materials and processes industry.

The 2019 program featured more than 150 technical paper presentations, including its keynote address by Boeing’s CTO, Dr Greg Hyslop, about how materials engineering can make an impact on the world stage.

Jeff Andrews, vice president of competition at Hendrick Motorsports also reported on the use of composite materials in NASCAR race cars.

The event also featured a session in honor of Dr Katie Thorp, materials engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory, who sadly died in July 2018. Dr Thorp was a technical expect in high temperature polymers, composites, metamaterials, biomaterials and processing science.
