The RheVision® products use bio-fibres from waste materials (initially wood fibre, rice hulls and flax fibre) to produce materials that have potential applications in the automotive, consumer and construction markets.
RheTech reports that further RheVision products are under development, utilising other natural reinforcements and incorporating significant levels of post-consumer recycled material.
The RheVision technology was developed at RheTech's Technical and Application Centre in Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA.
RheVision was developed to address the growing demand from customers and consumers for more sustainable materials, says Andrew Hopkins, executive vice president, RheTech.
“This new biocomposite product line balances performance, competitive economics and environmental benefits," he reports. "RheVision products have a substantially lower carbon footprint than traditional reinforced polypropylenes and, in addition to savings in landfill cost and space, are lighter weight than traditional reinforced polypropylene compounds. They are easily mouldable and extrudable with standard equipment and can easily be coloured with standard colorants."
RheTech Inc produces filled and reinforced polypropylenes and polyamides, colour concentrates and additives for the automotive, truck, electronics, construction and consumer markets.
