Twintex products are made of commingled high performance glass and thermoplastic filaments. Direct roving is the base material for the Twintex product line, and can be provided with a polypropylene (PP) matrix and most recently with polyester (PET) resin. Glass reinforcements supplier FGI , of Amsterdam, New York, currently licenses the Twintex intellectual property from Owens Corning to produce its GLASS POLYPRO™ roving and fabrics in the US. With this agreement, FGI will acquire the existing portfolio of customers, the rights to the Twintex intellectual property globally, application knowledge and the rights to the Twintex trademark. GLASS POLYPRO roving is suitable for filament winding, pultrusion, reinforcement of extruded profiles and weaving. Consolidation is done by heating the roving above the melting temperature of the PP matrix and applying a pressure before cooling under pressure.
According to Owens Corning, FGI’s present Twintex roving capacity is sufficient to serve worldwide markets in addition to its domestic customers. The sale is expected to close at the end of the first quarter. The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
