Adhesively bonded joints and speciality coatings are expected to benefit from this laser inspection technique, which uses a high peak power short pulse laser to perform a localised test of bond strength. The test method has been developed following extensive experimental development and sensitivity to bond quality variations such as surface preparation, adhesive mixing and contamination has been demonstrated in repeatable tests.
