These figures are from Maxiquim, a consulting firm hired by the Latin American Composite Materials Association (ALMACO).

Recovery in the markets of trucks, buses, tractors and road equipment drove sales, as well as the wind energy industry.

For the 2013 first quarter Brazil consumed 49,700 tons of composites, a 10% drop from the 2012 first quarter and a slight increase of 0.4% on the fourth quarter of 2012.

“The difference between revenue and volume of processed material is due to the increased costs of inputs, services and payrolls,” explains Gilmar Lima, president of ALMACO.

According to the Maxiquim survey, Brazil's composites industry should earn US$1.612 billion in 2013, an increase of 8.1% on 2012. Volumes will reach 211,000 tons, up 2.3% from last year.
