Boeing factory to make composites for defense

Boeing has opened a facility in Arizona, USA, designed to produce composite components for combat aircraft.

The 155,000 ft2 facility, called the Advanced Composite Fabrication Center (ACFC), could be fully operational in the autumn, the company said.

Boeing also plans to build factories for “subsequent phases of production” in St Louis, Missouri.

“We’re leading the way again by digitally transforming our entire production system to build the next generation of advanced combat aircraft,” said Ted Colbert, president and CEO of the company’s defense, space and security business.

“The ACFC capitalizes on the latest in digital engineering – from initial concept and design to the production floor and sustainment.” added Steve Nordlund, Boeing vice president. “We are committed to a future where our platforms are more modular and adaptable, our software is more modifiable and scalable, and where our customers have a common experience across all of our products.”
