The St. Louis composites facility will begin producing parts for the 777X in 2017.
These parts will be designed in St. Louis, Boeing Aerostructures Australia (BAA) and other Boeing sites.
Composite wing
The 777X, officially launched in November 2013, features technologies developed for the 787 Dreamliner, including a composite wing. First delivery is targeted for 2020.
The parts built by the St. Louis team will support 777X work at the new composite wing centre in Everett, Washington, home of the 777X programme. The composite wing centre of more than 1 million ft2 is currently under construction.
Earlier this year, Boeing selected its Everett site as the location for a new composite wing centre for the 777X programme. Here Boeing will perform fabrication and assembly of the 777X's composite wing.
Boeing will also perform final assembly of the 777X in Everett.
