S-2 Glass fibres, made exclusively by AGY, are supplied to a wide variety of markets and end use applications around the world. In the aerospace industry, the high performance reinforcements can be used in applications such as helicopter blades, aircraft flooring, interiors and structural parts.
S-2 Glass fibre products that are designed to be compatible with phenolic, epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester resins, as well as many thermoplastic resins. AGY reports that S-2 Glass has a higher tensile strength than standard-modulus carbon fibre as well as most grades of aramid fibre, and because S-2 Glass fibre has a high strain-to-failure of 5.7% (compared to aramid’s 2.8% and carbon’s 1.5%) it can withstand high impact events.
