The Fraunhofer Institute and partners have developed a traction battery with thermal storage capacity featuring a sandwich battery housing made of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTP).

According to the institute, the composite can help insulate stored heat in the traction battery by preconditioning the temperature-sensitive battery cells in cold weather before the ride and to keep them at an optimum operating temperature.
