Resin technology can cure prepreg systems in under three minutes

Composite technology company Kordsa has developed new resin technology which reduces its curing time of nine minutes to three minutes with an improved composite surface quality.

Compression molding is the recommended process for this new resin system which cures under three minutes at 150°C at press under isothermal curing conditions and is hot de-moldable with a out-life of two weeks at ambient temperature. The new visual prepreg shows a good drapability and is suitable for both fast press molding and low to medium tack optimized for press curing, Kordsa says.

The short curing cycle and hot de-moldable nature of the resin make it suitable for mass production at automotive industry, the company says. Due to its mid to high Tg formulation, it is suitable for cataphoresis, hot painting, and hot adhesive bonding and is available as UD and various weaving styles of carbon and glass.
