Nesting software helps reduce solar car costs

Jetcam reports that a Belgian racing team is using its composite nesting software to manufacture a solar powered car.

Plans are for the Innoptus Solar Team to run the car in a solar car race in Australia in 2023.

Jetcam’s software has reportedly been used to manage the two main material in the vehicle that are processed on cutting machines: carbon fibre prepreg and foam core materials. According to the company, it has been able to generate cutting files for the different machines used.

The nesting algorithm can help ensure minimal wastage of premium materials used during the manufacturing process, the company said.

“The material savings have also been very handy as it has allowed us to use our expensive […] core material very efficiently,” said Dries Sanders, head of mechanical engineering for the team.
