Graco, a supplier of fluid handling products and systems, has developed a range of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) chop systems, suitable for molded FRPs such as those used in marine applications.

Graco’s 13:1 chop system proportioner has on-ratio dispensing, while the company’s RS chop gun allows for an easy transition from wet-out to chop.

The Graco chop system proportioner is designed to provide better ratio control, improving the quality of end products with minimized waste. The system is designed such that no surge bottle is necessary and a low amount of solvent and resin is needed to prime the pump, so material costs are kept low.

Improved safety

The Graco FRP systems RS chop gun reportedly has increased safety and efficiency over competing technologies. The Graco chop gun has a dual trigger function, allowing operators to change from wet-out to chop without needing to turn the chopper off. Additionally, the gun has blade cartridge, with blades molded directly into the cartridge. Operators can change blades without touching individual blades and without needing a special tool, increasing operator safety and making it possible to change blades in less than a minute.

The company says that the Graco RS chop gun is up to 44% lighter than competing gun technologies, leading to better handling and spraying control for operators. The gun also has an improved spray pattern and reduced VOC emissions for reduced material waste and operator health concerns.
