Composites with reduced tear

Canada-based Aluula Composites has developed a new range of lightweight composite materials that it says have improved tear resistance.

The company’s Aeris X material incorporates an ‘X’ shaped weave, reportedly increasing bias strength and tear resistance by six times. It also has increased durability and improved UV resistance, when compared to similar canopy and sail fabrics.

Aeris materials are made from a single polymer, making them more easily recyclable.

“Since the beginning, our primary objective has been to create the ultimate performance composite fabric, breaking away from the dominance of single-use fabrics that have prevailed for far too long,” said Richard Myerscough, CEO.
