Lanxess says that a project using its continous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite material has won an award.

The FuPro project, which covers design and process development for functionalized multi-component structures with complex hollow profiles, won the Gold Materialica Award in the surface and technology category at the eMove360° Europe mobility event which took place in Munich, Germany.

According to the company, the project involves combining a fiber composite modular system, organic sheet metal, fiber composite hollow sections and injection molding compounds to form multi-component structures. The organic sheets are made from Lanxess’ Tepex dynalite 102-RG600 semi-finished material, which is based on roving glass fabric and a polyamide 6 matrix. Its aim is to improve process, structural and functional integration using a combination of torsion and flexurally rigid hollow profiles, flat construction elements and complex node structures, and achieve significant weight reductions in vehicle structures.
