All-composite truck cab improves efficiency

TPI Composites in the US has partnered with truck manufacturer Navistar Inc to develop an all-composite cab and trailer box, for the latter’s International SuperTruck II hybrid vehicle.

According to TPI, using composites instead of steel and aluminum can bring about a 170% improvement in freight efficiency when compared to Navistar’s International SuperTruck I, made in 2009.

The project was co-funded by the US Department of Energy.
