Airbond has developed a new range of carbon splicers for composites or carbon fabric with manufacturers.

The splicing process involves moving air at high speed to tangle fibers without breaking them. According to the company, yarn splicers help produce a smooth joint between threads, reducing costs in all textile processes. It has been historically difficult to make spliced joints in the brittle materials such as carbon or glass fibers used by the composites industry, which also tend to be much heavier yarns than in the traditional textile industry, Airbond says.

‘Over many years we have developed a simple, robust solution, where we now offer a range of products to splice materials such as carbon fiber which for decades have proved particularly troublesome,’ said Graham Waters, MD.
