Toho Tenax, together with Sakai Ovex Co Ltd, developed an ultra-lightweight Tenax carbon fibre fabric just 0.06 mm thick which was used to fabricate a lightweight car body which still has the stiffness and strength needed to withstand race conditions.

GH Craft, a developer of CFRP structures for the automotive, rail and aerospace industries, was involved from the concept design stage in developing the solar car’s carbon fibre composite body.

The World Solar Challenge will take place in Australia on 6-13 October.

Toho Tenax is the core company of The Teijin Group's carbon fibres and composites business. GH Craft is also a Teijin company. In addition to thermoset CFRP, Teijin is also developing thermoplastic CFRP at its Teijin Composites Innovation Center.
