A tidal turbine installed in the North Sea features three rotor blades manufactured in house by A C Marine & Composites.
The 1.5 megawatt AR1500 turbine is situated in the Pentland Firth, a strait which separates the Orkney Islands from Caithness in the north of Scotland. A C Marine & Composites makes structural and aesthetic composite components.
‘A C Marine & Composites were chosen not only for their technical know-how but their willingness to work with us throughout the design and development phases, contributing many ideas and suggestions along the way,’ said Robert Bray, blade development manager at Atlantis Resources, which ran the project. ‘During manufacture A C Marine & Composites were very supportive of our needs, even to the extent of providing an on-site office for Atlantis staff to facilitate an integrated ‘one team approach’. This has contributed greatly to building blades which meet our demanding specifications.’
