The fuselage and wings were made with the TeXtreme spread carbon tow fabric, which is said to offer uniform weight distribution and ease of handling and draping.
“TeXtreme’s unique flat structure produces relatively less crimp in the fabric. As a consequence, there is significant reduction in accumulation of unwanted matrix in the crimping pockets. In a sport where each gram can influence the outcomes, the TeXtreme definitely gives us the opportunity to engineer advantages in the gliders…,” says Mattias Hammarskiöld at Swedish Momentum Model Technologies.
The glider’s wing span is 1.5 m, the length of the craft is 1.1 m, and the total weight of the aircraft is 215 g – 7% lighter than models made with conventional woven carbon reinforcements.
Oxeon’s fabric has also been used in a racing kiteboard from Boards & More GmbH of Molln, Austria. Oxeon is based in Borås, Sweden.
