Siemens to supply further offshore wind turbines to DONG Energy

Siemens will also be the contractor for the grid connection including offshore and onshore substations and onshore cabling for the Lincs offshore wind farm.

The wind turbines for Lincs will, as for the Walney 2 and London Array offshore wind farms, be delivered with the newest version of Siemen’s 120 m rotor, which have been recently erected close to DONG Energy’s power plant Avedøreværket in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This comes in addition the that agreement from March 2009, under which Siemens were to supply up to 500 offshore wind turbines with a total output of 1800 MW. So far, Siemens has delivered 367 MW for Walney 1 & 2, and 630 MW for London Array offshore wind farm.

Siemens and DONG Energy have also agreed on potential further deliveries.

Anders Eldrup, CEO at DONG Energy, says: “With these potential further supplies from Siemens, DONG Energy is well positioned to maintain our leading position within offshore wind. The agreement is an important step for DONG Energy in progressing and realising the projects in our pipeline. This will secure the growth within the offshore wind business area and support the transformation of our business towards a greener profile.”

CEO of Siemens Energy Sector, Wolfgang Dehen, adds: “The expanded supply agreement with DONG Energy is the world’s largest agreement of its kind and will further strengthen our position as the clear market leader in offshore business. It also supports our goal to grow faster than the market in order to become one of the top three suppliers worldwide in the wind power market by 2012.”
