“Borkum Riffgrund 1 will be DONG Energy’s first offshore wind farm in Germany. I am confident that DONG Energy as a market leader within offshore wind will be able to play a vital role in the interesting and fast developing German market,” says Ander Eldrup, CEO at DONG Energy.
The offshore wind farm is to consist of up to 89 Siemens 3.6 MW offshore wind turbines. Siemens is responsible for supply , installation and commissioning of the wind turbines to be erected at a 36 km2 area in water depths down to 29 m. The agreement also includes five-year service, maintenance and warranty.
Siemens says this is its fifth order for the construction of an offshore wind power plant in Germany.
Borkum Riffgrund 1, which will be situated around 80 km northwest of Emden and 55 km off the German coast, is expected to see construction start in 2013 with the first power production in 2014.
The wind farm will receive a fixed, but undisclosed price per kWh produced for the first 13 years of operation before receiving market prices.
DONG Energy will also develop Borkum Riffgrund 2, but no investment decision has yet been made for this project.
