Siemens has already entered a contract to supply the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) grid connections.
“The BorWin2 and HelWin1 projects for integration of the offshore wind farms Veja Mate, Global Tech 1 and Nordsee Ost into the onshore high-voltage transmission grid will benefit from our many years of experience in this field,” says Dr Udo Niehage, CEO of the Power Transmission Division within Siemens’ Energy Sector.
“…we have so far received orders for connecting offshore wind farms with a rating totalling approximately 4800 MW. Now we are going to aggressively develop our maintenance business in this field as well,” he adds.
The contracts include preparing maintenance schedules, coordinating and executing inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs, and providing logistics and spare parts management service for the offshore wind farm grid connections.
The offshore wind farms are located 85-125 km offshore to the north-west of the islands of Borkum and Helgoland.
The BorWin2 grid connection will have a transmission capacity of up to 800 MW, and HelWin1 a capacity of 576 MW. The offshore wind farm grid connections are scheduled to be ready for operation in 2013.
80 wind turbines for DanTysk offshore wind farm
Siemens has also said it will deliver 80 of its SWT-3.6-120 wind turbines for the DanTysk offshore wind farm near the island of Sylt in the North Sea.
Installation of the 3.6 MW offshore wind turbines are scheduled to start in 2012, and the 288 MW offshore wind farm is expected to be commissioned in the winter of 2013-2014.
