Australian composites manufacturer Quickstep has acquired a minority stake in Carbonix, a drone designer and manufacturer.

The two companies are also negotiating a manufacturing agreement to increase manufacturing volume, Quickstep said.

The company has also appointed Steve Osborne as manager of its advanced air mobility segment, as well as his existing role as general manager of business development.

Plans are for the company to enter the drone and eVTOL aircraft market, which is valued at AU$226 billion from 2020 to 2021, according to Quickstep. Besides the segment targeted by companies such as Carbonix, the cargo drone manufacturing and operating market alone is predicted to reach US$58B by 20352.

‘We believe the Commonwealth Government’s National Emerging Aviation Technologies Policy will support national AAM sector growth,’ said Quickstep CEO, Mark Burgess. ‘Establishing a dedicated vertical ensures we are laser focused on taking advantage of the environment this creates.’
