New chair at Fraunhofer

Hildegard Müller, president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), has been appointed the new chair of German research institute Fraunhofer.

He succeeds Professor Jörg Fuhrmann, chair of steel maker Salzgitter AG.

Oliver Zipse, chair of the board of management at BMW AG, has been re-elected as deputy alongside Kerstin Grosse, managing director of Derossi Invest GmbH, taking over from Professor Birgit Spanner-Ulmer.

The new appointees will hold their roles for three years from January 2023.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to Professor Fuhrmann, Professor Spanner-Ulmer and Mr Zipse for their many years of faithful service,” said Professor Reimund Neugebauer, president of Fraunhofer. “Together, we have managed to advance the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s work and set a course for a sustainable, thriving future. […] As a team, I believe we have what it takes to develop and strengthen the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’s capabilities and what it contributes to keeping the German and European economies competitive.”

A new president will be elected in May 2023, according to the technology institute.
