The organization’s high-performance additive manufacturing thermoplastics (ULTEM 9085) project and the low cost reduced range practice rockets (LCRRPR) program were recognized in the engineering and production category.
The LCRRPR program provided The Letterkenny Munitions Center (LEMC) a production line to decommission out of service M26 rockets. NCDMM provided manufacturing engineering support to improve the LCRRPR production line, including researching the manufacturing processes for components such as the rocket motor inspection system (RMIS) and launch pod container (LPC) Loader.
The High-performance additive manufacturing thermoplastics project, a project in the America Makes portfolio, built upon a previous project entitled “Maturation of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Component Manufacturing” by creating a dataset that addresses the concerns and flaws from the first round of study. The project also enabled industry members to use their own design allowable methodologies for statistical data analysis, according to NCDMM.
