Morgan Advanced Materials says that the body armour will provide protection for high threat levels, including difficult multi-hit requirements. The two contracts run until March 2016 with options for production extending until March 2021.

Morgan’s armour development program closely follows objectives outlined in the Canada First Defence Strategy, which ensures high levels of Canadian content to build upon Canada’s key industrial capabilities. The most recent development work contract is an extension of the already impressive portfolio of work undertaken by the company, which also provides plates to the UK Ministry of Defence, as well as the US Military and Special Forces.

Morgan adds that the new contracts are integral to its goal of supporting Canada with the requirements outlined in Canada’s Soldier System Technology Roadmap. The Composites and Defence Systems business specialises in composite systems for commercial, medical, security and defence applications including vehicle armour, combat helmets and body armour. Upon successful completion of the development contracts a second phase includes options for body armour production for the Canadian military.
