FET, a UK company which supplies textile machinery, has completed the installation and commissioning of a spunbond system for the University of Leeds.
The FET spunbond system now forms part of research facilities at the university that also cover fiber and fabric processing, physical testing and characterization.
Plans are for the lab to support research into medical devices using unconventional polymers and additive mixes to form spunbond fabrics with multifunctional properties.
The researchers aim to develop ways to understand better underlying process-structure-performance relationships based measured data, to improve understanding of how final fabric performance can be controlled during processing.
