High strength composite for AM

CRP Technology has introduced a new polyamide-based carbon fiber filled composite which it says can be used in production-grade powder bed fusion (PBF) 3D printing.

Windform RS is the tenth material in the company’s range of composite materials developed for the PBF process with reinforced fiber polymers.

According to CRP, the composite has a high tensile strength of 85.25 MPa, elongation at break of 9.46%, and low density of 1,10g/cc. Windform RS is also resistant to damage, vibrations, deformations and high temperatures. It is resistant to water and liquid absorption down to just 1 mm part thickness and has been rated HB, according to the flammability UL 94 test, CRP said. It can also withstand shocks at various ranges of temperature and has been successfully tested to -40°C, according to the company.

‘Windform RS is suited for tough, intricate and complex 3D printed PBF parts, robust functional prototypes and heavy-duty end-use applications withstanding harsh environments,’ said Franco Cevolini, CEO.

The material can reportedly be used in custom production, preseries parts and mission-critical components for industries such as aerospace, military, robotics, motorsports, automotive and marine.
