The mould is being developed and manufactured at Red Maple's new production site in Taicang, China. This facility is designed for the manufacture of moulds for blades of wind turbines of up to 7 MW capacity.
Gurit says this European order is an important step in Gurit’s global tooling strategy, following shipments of several blade moulds to European-controlled customers in China, as well as the delivery of moulds to two customers in India this year.
Gurit acquired Chinese company Suzhou Red Maple Wind Blade Mould Co Ltd at the end of 2009 with the aim of continuing to support wind turbine blade manufacturers in Asia, and then to expand the blade mould technology globally. Wind energy is one of Gurit’s key markets.
The companies of Gurit Holding AG, Wattwil, Switzerland, specialise in the development and manufacture of advanced composite materials and related technologies, including prepregs, core materials, gel-coats, adhesives and resins as well as certain finished parts.
