GKN signs eVTOL agreement

GKN Aerospace has signed an agreement to develop parts for an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Plans are for GKN to work with the manufacturer Supernal LLC, a division of Hyundai, to make lightweight aerostructures and electrical wiring systems for a full-scale prototype which the company will begin flying in 2024. It also wants to find ways to speed up assembly and improve production volumes to meet potentially increased demand for this kind of vehicle, GKN said.

“Our work with GKN Aerospace will lay the foundation for producing eVTOL vehicles at scale and will be bolstered by Hyundai Motor Group’s high-tech manufacturing processes,” said Jaiwon Shin, president of Hyundai Motor Group and CEO of Supernal.“Supernal’s eVTOL can play a key role in the transition to zero-emissions flight, and we are delighted to be collaborating on the platform,” said sad John Pritchard, president at GKN.
